The border between the two countries runs almost 2000 miles, across four American states and six Mexican districts. When an entry path is sealed or is under intensive observation, crossings move to another location quickly. People making decisions about sealing the fence generally are miles away from the border, but people planning to cross are on location, watching and re-arranging the routes. This means they are able to compensate immediately.

Consider the implications of these contrasting territories: crowded Tijuana on the right side, seems about to burst right across the fence. It gives me the impression that there is practically nothing preventing people from running in mass across the line that separates the two countries. An impressive fence, even one with its height and all kinds of state of the art gizmos, seems to shrink against the magnitutude of its purpose.

Among the victims of the immigration crises, there are the sad  accounts of  mothers sacrificing their lives in order to provide their children the hope of a better tomorrow. These women profiled here, ride the infamous La Bestia train across Mexico. (Spanish video)

This would be so amusing were it not so true. A guys helps some people cross into a deserted area across Tijuana, and he returns to Tijuana while covering his tracks. To me, this highlights the futility of patrolling the border, as enforcers cannot be everywhere at all times.
